Up for sale is an absolutely breathtaking Imperial Good Companion Model 1 which was manufactured in Leicester, England in 1937. This typewriter is in remarkable condition cosmetically and mechanically with only few flaws. The paint finish shines beautifully, and has been lightly waxed. If you have OCD, you may find yourself dusting this machine frequently, because any speck of dust is clearly noticeable on the black glossy paint. The labels are all original and untouched, and show now signs of wear. The chrome is not quite perfect, but most of it shines like new. A lot of the metal rings around the keys are very lightly pitted, but it gives the machine some character, otherwise this machine would not show its age at all. The case is a little more worn, and the leather handle is gone, however the metal piece that would have gone in between the leather can still function as a handle without any worries. The front rubber feet on the bottom of the case have disintegrated, so I would recommend placing this machine on a pad if typing on a desk to prevent it from sliding around. This typewriter does not use universal ribbons, but even if it did, I would recommend re-threading the original spools. An instructions manual can be found here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/ImperialGoodCompanion.pdf
While this typewriter is fully functional, I wouldn't recommend using this one to write anything significant such as a novel. The typing mechanism isn't too impressive and smooth, especially compared to what other European typewriter companies had to offer at the time (especially German companies). Either way, this typewriter can still be used every now and then, and does work well (See type sample in pictures).
When this typewriter isn't being used, it makes for a stunning decoration and conversation piece, especially considering the Imperial is rather uncommon in the states, especially in this condition.
