1930 Remington Portable #3
Up for sale is a beautiful Remington Portable Model 3 which was manufactured in 1930. This typewriter also has what I believe to be a Polish keyboard, which makes this machine pretty unique.
This typewriter is in impressive condition both cosmetically and mechanically. Everything is fully functional on this machine right down to the bell, and the original glossy black paint shines beautifully. The chrome shows its age a bit more in some places, however it really isn't pitted and there's no rust. The "9" key sits slightly below the rest, however the key still works as it should and it's purely a cosmetic thing. The carrying case/lid is also in impressive shape for its age, although it is missing the original leather handle. A replacement handle could be crafted or ordered elsewhere if desired.
This typewriter is an excellent machine to write on, however you'll probably want to have the platen and feed rollers re-covered soon if you really want to use this machine heavily. This can be done by JJ Shorts or other third parties. The current platen and feed rollers work fine and can still be used for years to come even with frequent use, but they are getting to be a little worn. I have discounted this typewriter appropriately, as this machine would normally be more expensive if the rollers and platen were in better shape or new.
You'll either want to re-thread the original spools with universal ribbon sold on this site, or buy replacement spools elsewhere as the universal spools do not fit on the machine. The owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/Remington3.pdf
If you're in the market for a typewriter with a Polish keyboard or any attractive classy '30s machine that can still be used somewhat heavily and frequently, then this is an attractive option.
