Because typewriters are rather fragile, shipping is an integral and quite involved process.  As such, it tends to be rather expensive, due to the sheer weight of typewriters (they tend to be on the heavier side), as well as the materials and time invested in packing in order to be certain your typewriter is safely packed and will not be damaged during shipping.  However, the cost is most definitely worth it to ensure that your machine arrives safely!
