Up for sale is an awesome Corona Zephyr which dates to 1938; the first year that the Zephyr was manufactured. The Zephyr was introduced by Smith-Corona to compete with Hermes and their Hermes Baby typewriter, which was another very small portable typewriter like this one. (Corona and LC Smith had merged quite a few years before, but this was marketed as the Corona Zephyr)
Overall, this typewriter is a really nice one, and I almost wanted to keep it for my collection despite the fact that I have too many machines! I had to do a little craft-work and I glued some pieces of a red shirt into the area where the typebar heads fall back into place. This mutes the clinky sound of the heads slamming into the metal when they return. The only thing not working on this typewriter is the left hand shift key. Because of the fact that this typewriter is so small and lightweight (although it is metal, the body is very thin) this typewriter would be great to travel with compared to many other typewriters. The outside of the case is very clean, although the inside is a little stained. The original leather handle is still in tact, and it looks great. Another one of my favorite things about this typewriter is the simplicity of the carriage return lever. You just push back on it with your pointer finger, and move the carriage over, and you're ready to type the next line. This small lever was designed to allow the typewriter to fit into such a small case.
