Here's an early Remington Portable Model 1 which was manufactured in 1922. This typewriter is in excellent shape especially considering how old it is. The carriage string/drawband was recently repaired and replaced, so this typewriter should function for a very long time with that in mind. Cosmetically, the machine is in beautiful and original shape. Some of the labels are very slightly worn, and the paint isn't one hundred percent perfect, but it's clean, and definitely original. If you aren't familiar with the Remington Portable, the typebars need to be raised by a knob on the right hand side of the machine. To type, the knob gets pushed towards the typewriter (it tends to be a little stiff sometimes) and then when you're done typing and/or wish to put the typewriter in the carrying case, the knob gets returned to the position away from the carriage, and the typebars slowly fall as the knob is pulled. This design allowed the typewriter to be one of the most portable typewriters of its time.
This typewriter is fully functional, but it does consistently skip a space towards the center of the carriage, which isn't a huge issue as long as you know about it. Otherwise the typewriter can be used frequently, although I would not use this typewriter heavily and as a workhorse as you could with much newer models.
