Here is a beautiful Facit typewriter from the 1970s. This typewriter is in amazing working condition, and really is prepared for heavy use. It's as close to the functionality of a desktop that a portable typewriter can get! It really is a joy to type on. Cosmetically, this typewriter has some minor flaws. There are some small chips in the paint where the carriage return lever strikes the corner of the machine, and some ink stains on the sides and back, but overall is in fairly good condition. The case is amazingly well-preserved.
There is a story that comes with this typewriter - I acquired it from this odd little antique store on a fairly well known route through the desert. A lot of people detour there just to check it out on their way to their destination, just as I did, and from what I understand, Stephen King was one of these people. The store even had a still from their security footage of him in their shop taped up on the wall. When I inquired about this Facit, the woman working the register told me that it had been in there for a while, and that about two months earlier Stephen King had stopped to check it out. She said that he typed up a little on it, and left it for the store to read. I'm not entirely sure how credible her story is, but I can assure that Stephen King was in their store and I don't see why he would't have stopped to use this machine. So long story short, it's quite probable that Stephen King typed on this Facit. Additionally, this machine has a gorgeous, rare, and sought after cursive font. It is a beautiful machine with a lovely story to it, and a wonderful script.
