Up for sale is a classic Remington Portable model #2 which was made in America in 1927. The Remington Portable was one of the first popular portables, and features folding typebars to allow this machine to be slimmer and more compact than the competition it faced in the 1920s. If you aren't familiar with the Remington Portable, the typebars are raised with a little lever on the right-hand side of the machine (see pictures) for typing, then lowered to fit inside the case. Also, the #2 featured a slightly larger carriage, so in order to fit in the case, the carriage MUST be locked. (see procedure here, or refer to instructions manual: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQqF9hu04Zw)
This typewriter features a rare Apothecary keyboard, so this Remington Portable was most likely used by a Pharmacist to type up prescription labels.
This typewriter does show a few signs of its age, however overall it's in great shape considering it was made 90 years ago. It is in fully functional shape, although the variable line space lever had to be removed because it was binding, and the carriage drawband was replaced, which will ensure many more years of typing! Universal ribbons do not fit this typewriter, so you will likely need to rethread the ribbon (or send it back to me to rethread when the time comes) however the current ribbon that is installed should last a while depending on use. Regarding my suggestion for use of this machine, I would only suggest it for personal writing here and there. Maybe a nice letter/note or two here and there, however I would not recommend this one to write a novel. Of course, if you really want to, it can be done, however it would be more easy to do so on a more modern machine.
