Up for sale is a Royal Mercury which was made in Japan sometime in the early 1970s. This typewriter is not the highest end machine, however it's very reliable, portable, and it gets the job done well. This Mercury is in excellent shape overall, with only some discoloration of the keys (they are 100% clean- the plastic is just discolored)
The typewriter works perfectly right down to the bell, and it uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. This typewriter doesn't have the best touch in my opinion (compared to the more expensive machines) and so although mechanically this typewriter can handle very heavy use without any trouble, I would personally not want to type a novel on this machine. Still, this typewriter can be used to type a few pages at a time as you wish, and it's a nice reliable workhorse for whatever purpose it serves. The portability of this machine is its main highlight, only being a few inches high, and incredibly light compared to other portables.
