Up for sale is an Olympia SM7 which was made in Western Germany in 1963. This typewriter is fair condition cosmetically, however it's an excellent machine to use despite its cosmetic issues. Most of the cosmetic issues are finer details that can perhaps be overlooked in the pictures, so I will write them thoroughly in this description. To begin, the case is a little beat up and isn't in the greatest shape. Only half of the latch is operable, however it still does its job in keeping the case latched properly to the point where you don't have to worry about it staying closed. Secondly, there are several areas of minor surface rust and pitting on some of the chrome. See all pictures to get an idea of the severity of the issue. None of the surface rust is effecting the usability or functionality of the machine- I will discuss that further along. Additionally, there are a few very minor chips/scratches in the paint, but they are few and far in between. The right hand carriage knob has a slight chunk of it missing, however it's an extremely small piece- hardly noticeable at all. Lastly, the left plastic alignment guide which includes the line drawing notch had to be glued on. Although is is clear that it was glued on, it is secure and won't break off unless you seriously try to break it off.
With all that being said, this typewriter is fully functional and is truly an excellent machine to write with. You can review the type sample in the second picture. As most Olympias are, this machine makes for a great workhorse and can be used for heavier/higher demanding duties such as writing a novel. A user manual can be viewed here: http://machinesoflovinggrace.com/manuals/OlympiaSM7manual.pdf
and this typewriter also uses universal typewriter ribbons which are sold on this website.
Because of this machine's minor cosmetic issues, this would be a great bargain if you're looking for a workhorse to do lots of writing with.
