Up for sale is a beautiful Corona Sterling which was made in 1940. This machine was made in the first year of this model's production. The "speedline" design turned out to be a hit for Smith-Corona (though this machine is only labeled Corona) and was produced with little variation all the way through 1949. Overall, this particular typewriter is in excellent shape both cosmetically, and especially mechanically. Everything works fully right down to the bell at the end of the line, and the type is perfectly aligned and adjusted (see photos for a type sample) Even the rubber feet are all in tact and aren't cracked or rock solid. This is one of the few machines from this era that I would actually recommend to be used heavily. The case has some evidence of light wear, but other than that, this typewriter is near mint. Everything about this typewriter is sleek and smooth, especially the typing mechanism. The keys have a very light and smooth, yet snappy action, and it's a joy to write with. Universal ribbons, which are sold on this site, fit this machine perfectly. An instructions manual can be found here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SCFloating1938.pdf
Overall, if you are looking for a classic typewriter that can be used heavily and frequently, then this is one of my best recommendations.
