Up for sale is a rather uncommon Rheinmetall KsT which was made in Western Germany in 1958. This typewriter is one of my all-time favorites, however this one isn't perfect. To start off, the case is not included, so this machine is pretty much limited to a desktop. Some areas of this machine were a little rusty, and I was able to successfully remove a lot of rust and get all the mechanisms working as they should with the exception of the ribbon color selector. As a result, this typewriter can only type in black (or whatever single color ribbon is installed). This is generally not a huge deal because few people actually use the red half of the ribbon, but either way, it's definitely noteworthy to know that the ribbon color switch is INOP. On the topic of ribbons, this machine does use universal ribbons which are sold on this site- if ordering from me, just make sure to specify that you want an all black ribbon. Lastly, the paint isn't quite perfect. From a distance, it looks beautiful, but upon closer inspection, you can see that the paint has some circular splotches (see all pictures closely) which is unusual because from what I could tell, the paint is 100% original. Some parts of the machine are still a bit rusty, but this is purely cosmetic, and is not impacting the functionality of the machine (with exception to the ribbon color selector). Everything else is working perfectly and smoothly. Again, see all pictures- the rust is not everywhere and is not nearly as bad as I feel that I am making it out to be.
Now onto the positives: As with many other German-made machines from the era, this typewriter is of the highest quality and displays excellent German design and workmanship. The mechanism feels beautiful, and I would without a doubt recommend this machine for heavy use. If you want a novel-writer and don't mind being able to travel and carry this machine around easily in a case (unless you fabricate your own case) then this machine makes an excellent addition to a desk or table.
