Up for sale is a solid Olympia SM4 which was made in Western Germany in 1959. This typewriter is in excellent shape all around, and is fully functional. The only complaint is that the platen release lever (a small lever behind the carriage return lever) broke off and is missing (see third picture) The platen release feature can still be used, it's just a bit harder to access and move the piece that was connected to the little lever.
Other than that, this typewriter is a very reliable machine which can be used heavily and for long periods of time. Olympia typewriters have a reputation for being excellent works of German engineering, and this SM4 is no exception. Not only is the SM4 a great typer, it's also very easy to use and care for. It uses universal ribbons (sold on this site) and a user manual for the SM3 (nearly identical to the SM4, just without the tab set and clear keys on either end of the spacebar) can be downloaded here:
