Up for sale is a classic Smith-Corona Silent which was made in 1947. If were asked to name three portables to represent the 1940s, this model would be on the list without a doubt. Although this machine never lived up to its name of "Silent," the Silent and identical models released by Smith-Corona were extremely popular, and highlighted the new "streamline" style of the '40s. This typewriter is in excellent shape overall, and is in near mint shape. The case is in excellent shape as well, although it has a spot where a label was removed in the middle of the bottom of the case. (See pictures). Mechanically, this typewriter is pretty much perfect. Everything works without any issues right down to the bell, and unlike some older typewriters, the escapement mechanism doesn't lag at all, so you can actually get a high WPM with this classic. It wouldn't be my very first choice to write something large such as a novel with, however it can be used pretty frequently and heavily despite that being said. This typewriter also uses universal ribbons sold here: http://www.typewriters101.com/typewriter-ribbons-for-sale.html
