Up for sale is one of my favorite models- the Smith-Corona Sterling (5AX-Series). This individual Sterling was manufactured in 1963. The 5AX Sterling model is a popular model, and is one of my favorites by Smith-Corona because it features SCM's most modern and solid mechanism surrounded by SCM's more-streamlined body style of the past. This typewriter would be worth a lot more if it was in better cosmetic shape, however unfortunately, as evident in the pictures, it has some light surface rust and imperfections on the top of the ribbon cover. Despite being cleaned thoroughly with rubbing alcohol, the body is as clean as it will get (despite not appearing clean, it is). This typewriter is in fully functional shape, and works perfectly right down to the bell. As I mentioned before, this model is an excellent machine to type with, and has a very smooth and reliable mechanism. As with other SCM typewriters, this typewriter is extremely easy to use and maintain. The instructions manual can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SCSterlingManual1963.pdf. Universal ribbons which are sold on this site fit this machine perfectly. This typewriter also comes with a few extras, including the warranty certificate, which is obviously expired by now. If you're looking for a workhorse to use heavily, and don't mind the cosmetic flaws, then this an excellent machine.
