Up for sale is a Smith-Corona Corsair Deluxe which was made in England sometime in the 1960s. This typewriter appears to be in really good shape, however it has a few flaws. The plastic body on this machine is rather brittle, and as a result some of the plastic near the carriage ends has either cracked or come off (see pictures.) The plastic lid does not latch properly, however it kind of stays somewhat closed and remains in place if it's on the typewriter correctly (see the last pictures.) The platen has some white-out stains which I was not able to remove, however it only effects the appearance of the platen and does not sacrifice performance in any way. Lastly, the spacebar doesn't space well unless you press on it pretty firmly- however this is only when you space repeatedly and NOT when you space in between words. As you can see from the type sample, this typewriter is a decent typer. It types best with a quick and snappy typestroke. The type alignment is perfect, which may either be desirable or undesirable depending on the buyer.
Other than that, this typewriter would make an excellent bargain if you're willing to look past its issues considering the fact that this typewriter does work rather well once you get the hang of things. Unfortunately universal ribbons don't fit this machine, however SCM Corsair Deluxe ribbons are readily available on eBay or Amazon. The original owner's manual is included with this typewriter.
