Up for sale is a beautiful classic 1947 Smith-Corona Silent (4S-Series.) This typewriter is one of my favorite models, and was a very popular one for Smith-Corona back in the day. Despite being made in 1947, this typewriter is in magnificent condition and is fully functional right down to the bell. This typewriter is one of the smoothest typing machines from the 1940s, and one of the only ones this old that I would still recommend for heavy use. The mechanism on this typewriter is extremely smooth and reliable, and it would make a beautiful novel writer. Cosmetically, the paint isn't perfect, however it's in great shape with very few flaws. If you didn't already know, the "Silent" name isn't true- this typewriter is still pretty noisy although I will admit it is slightly quieter than the majority of portables, but nothing near the Remington Noiseless machines. This typewriter uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site, and the owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SmithCoronaFloatingShift1949.pdf.
Overall, if you're looking for a breath-taking classic from the '40s that can still be used heavily and reliably, then this is one of the best options out there.
