Up for sale is a nice Smith-Corona Sterling (5A-series) which was manufactured in 1959. This typewriter is an excellent machine in fully functional shape, however it has a few cosmetic flaws. The paint has some scratches and stains, but overall it could be worse. The carriage return lever hangs slightly lower than it should to the point where it just barely rubs against the ribbon cover when the carriage is all the way to the right, however there's not much you can do to fix that without risking breaking the carriage return lever. This issue is hardly noticeable, but it exists. Other than that, this typewriter functions perfectly right down to the bell. The mechanism is identical to other SCM portables from the 1950s and 1960s, which is well-known for being very smooth and reliable. This typewriter uses universal ribbons and the owner's manual can be found here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SC1958.pdf.
If you're looking for a no-frills workhorse that's easy to use and care for, then this is an excellent machine to go with.
