Up for sale is a beautiful blue Smith-Corona Sterling (5AX-Series) which was manufactured sometime in the 1960s. According to the typewriter serial number database, this typewriter was likely made in (or shortly after) 1966, however that is only an approximation. This 5AX Sterling is one of my favorite post-war portables, and many others like it as well. This model combines Smith-Corona's super reliable and smooth mechanism that was featured on all the mid-sized manual portables from the 1960s-1980s with the "Super 5" body style. In my opinion, this more streamlined body style is much more appealing than the "Galaxie" or Classic 10/12 body. The beautiful blue color makes it especially attractive.
This typewriter itself is in near mint condition all-around, and is fully functional right down to the bell. The paint is in exceptional shape with no major scratches at all, which is extremely uncommon. The metal shines beautifully and there is no rust anywhere. If you're looking for a beautiful '60s machine that can be used heavily, then this is one of the best options- especially if blue is your favorite color. This typewriter also comes with the original owner's manual and is extremely easy to use and care for. Universal ribbons fit this typewriter perfectly, and are for sale on this website.
