Up for sale is an Underwood Finger-Flite Universal which was manufactured sometime in the 1950s. This typewriter is fully functional, however is has a few issues. Strangely, some of the keys seem to be replacement keys, and are shaped a bit differently then the other original keys. Some of the replacement keys are slightly chipped as well. Despite this, the typewriter is still not too painful to type with and works great. The only notable thing to know when typing with this machine is that it's very important to type properly (with a brisk, yet firm and snappy typestroke). If you type as you may with a computer and press on the keys for too long at a time, the typewriter tends to skip a space on its own. This typewriter is less forgiving to improper typewriter typing techniques than others, however if you are on a budget and need to make it work, you will certainly get used to typing on this machine how it likes to be typed on.
Universal ribbons fit this machine, however it's important to note that the ribbon system feeds in the inverse direction than the standard.
This typewriter is in great shape overall minus the quirks that I described, and can be used heavily.
If you're a writer on a budget and are willing to work through the quirks, then this is a great machine.
