Up for sale is a beautiful Remington Noiseless Portable which was manufactured in 1934. This typewriter is in excellent shape both cosmetically and mechanically, however its major flaw is that it's missing the carriage return lever. If you're willing to use this machine without it (you just have to use one of the platen knobs to line space and move the carriage over) then this is an excellent opportunity to buy an otherwise breathtaking classic typewriter from the depression-era.
Despite the "noiseless" title, this typewriter still makes quite a bit of noise when you type, however the design does eliminate a lot of the sound involved with the typebar striking the ribbon and paper. This typewriter works perfectly right down to the bell, with the exception of the carriage return lever of course. Cosmetically, this typewriter is near mint and shines almost like new, however a lot of the labels are slightly worn (especially the writing on the rear) and there are a few minor scratches. The case is also in great shape, and still has the original leather handle with dual brass latches. Universal ribbons do not fit this machine, because like most Remington typewriters, the ribbon itself is threaded into the typewriter's "built-in" ribbon spool centers. More about that can be seen in the owner's manual for this model, which can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/RemingtonNoiselessPortable.pdf.
If you're looking for a beautiful vintage typewriter from the '30s at a fraction of the price that this machine would normally demand (if it had a carriage return lever), then this is an excellent deal.
