Up for sale is a beautiful Remington Noiseless Portable which was manufactured in the heart of the Great Depression in 1934. This typewriter is stunning condition, and is fully functional with the exception of the bell, which would be working if it weren't missing a special spring. The glossy black paint on this machine has few to no scratches or flaws, and shines impressively like a mirror. The labels are all in tact- although the "Remington Noiseless Portable" label on the paper table has some character and wear- which is to be expected. I have replaced the rubber feet, and the platen and feed rollers are still in great shape.
Despite its name, the Remington Noiseless is not completely noiseless, however it is significantly quieter by design. You can get an idea of what this machine sounds like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wzp4OAjAtag
This typewriter is relatively easy to use and for, however it does not use universal ribbons or any interchangeable ribbon the same way that most other typewriters do. You can use a universal ribbon, or any other 1/2 inch ribbon (since the spools are not used) to thread the ribbon directly into the "built-in" spools of the typewriter. This process is also explained in the owner's manual which can be found here: http://machinesoflovinggrace.com/manuals/manual-1936RemingtonPortables.pdf
As I mentioned earlier, this typewriter works well except for the bell- which does not ring.
I would not recommend this typewriter for extremely heavily writing- such as a novel. However, it is a functional and smooth typer to write with, and can be used very frequently and reliably.
If you're looking for a beautiful depression-era classic that can still be used, then this is a great option.
