1932 Remington Noiseless Portable
Up for sale is an early Remington Noiseless Portable which was manufactured in 1932- the second year of this model's production. This is one of few typewriters that photos don't do justice for. This particular version of the Noiseless Portable is much more uncommon than the other Remington Noiseless Portables on the market now. The plastic keys may lead you to believe that this machine was the later model, however it's the opposite. Later models had the "glass" keys and only had a "Remington" label below the spacebar rather than the "Remington Noiseless Portable" labeling which is also located on the paper tray. The case is also different from the more common variant, and has a beautiful latch as well as a leather pouch in the inside of the lid for paper or other materials. The case fits tightly and is not easy to put on (the carriage has to be perfectly centered and you have to line up the lid with the base) however it's still in good shape and does its job well. The last difference is that the typewriter is screwed into the base, instead of being easily removable by a latch.
Condition-wise, this typewriter is not mint but is in excellent shape both cosmetically and mechanically. The paint has a few dings (see pictures) and there's a small dent on the left side, however the paint shines beautifully. The handle on the case is worn, but is still in-tact.
Everything is fully functional on this machine, right down to the bell. If you have never written or heard a Remington Noiseless type, I would recommend watching the following video to get an idea of what these quiet machines sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wzp4OAjAtag
I would not recommend this for use as a workhorse, however this typewriter is still very much fully functional and can be used frequently and reliably.
I would also not recommend this machine for someone who has never used a typewriter before- mostly because the ribbon must be thread directly into the "built in" spools in the typewriter rather than swapping out interchangeable spools like on conventional typewriters. However, this process is still easy to learn with the video on our how to install a typewriter ribbon page (https://www.typewriters101.com/how-to-install-a-typewriter-ribbon.html) - just scroll down towards the bottom of the page.
Still, this typewriter is otherwise pretty standard to use and care for.

If you're looking for a classic, yet rare version of a very popular machine- the Remington Noiseless Portable, then this is a good machine to call your own.
