1957 Hermes Baby
Up for sale is an uncommon beauty- a Hermes Baby which was manufactured in Switzerland in 1957. This typewriter was not only designed to be extremely portable, coming in at only 8 pounds and measuring
11 1/4" x 11 1/4" x 2 5/8" but it is also an excellent machine for heavy and frequent use. Smaller machines like this one tend to be harder to type on for a long period of time, however the Hermes portables are one of the rare exceptions to this tendency. This particular machine is in near mint shape all around, and is fully functional right down to the bell. The bottom base of this machine has some wear, however the 4 rubber feet are still completely in tact, so this machine will not slide on any surface it is placed on for writing. This typewriter is only equipped for a single color ribbon, however single color universal ribbons will fit this machine perfectly. The owner's manual for this machine can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/hermesrocket1959.pdf
The carrying case for this machine has some wear, however it still does its job well and is in decent condition considering the fact that the case is leather. The zippers have some wear (see photos) however they are not really needed, as the case has an additional latch which keeps it shut and functional.
If you're looking for an uncommon and collectible novelty machine which can also be used heavily and reliably, then this is an excellent purchase.
