1961 Smith-Corona Sterling
Up for sale is a pretty Smith-Corona Sterling in blue which was manufactured in 1961. This typewriter is in excellent shape all around, and is fully functional right down to the bell. There are a few minor cosmetic flaws if you look closely- a tiny dent above the Smith-Corona lettering, and some minor discoloration in areas. Other than that, the blue paint looks amazing and really makes this machine “pop.” This Sterling is an excellent typer, and has a smooth and light touch along with other Smith-Corona models of the time. This typewriter is also very easy to use and care for. Universal ribbons fit this typewriter perfectly and are sold on this site. The owner’s manual for this machine can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SC1958.pdf
Keep in mind that the original carrying case is missing, however it will come with a Sears case (nearly identical to the case that this machine would have been in originally minus the labeling). The case is in decent shape, however the case has some rust. The latches only keep the machine mostly- not completely- closed, however the latches keep it closed enough that the typewriter can be carried normally.
If you’re looking for a pretty early ‘60s model (Same style as the ‘50s models) that can still be used heavily and reliably, then this is a great choice.
