1956 Hermes Rocket
Up for sale is an impressive Hermes Rocket which was manufactured in Switzerland in 1956. This typewriter is one of the most popular and collectible ultra-portable machines ever made.
This particular Hermes Rocket is in near mint shape all around, and looks beautiful. Everything on this machine is fully functional right down to the bell. The gray paint is in nearly perfect condition, with few to no scratches or other flaws. The labels on the rear of the machine are also fully in tact, which is extremely uncommon on this model because of how tightly the lid fits over the body. The chrome also shines like new, and is not worn at all. For this machine’s small size and weight, it is an excellent typer which can be used heavily and frequently. Hermes still has a high reputation among collectors, enthusiasts and writers, and this machine stands up to all expectations. Universal ribbons fit this typewriter perfectly and are sold on this site. The owner’s manual for this machine can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/hermesrocket1959.pdf
Despite having a two color ribbon installed, this machine does not have a ribbon color selector and only types on the top half of the ribbon, meaning the red can not be used. You can continue to install dual color ribbons, otherwise you can also choose to install all black (or other single color) ribbons when the time comes for a new ribbon.
If you’re in the market for a more collectible slim portable that can still be used heavily and reliably, then this is a perfect choice.
