1966 Smith-Corona Sterling
Up for sale is a beautiful "Star mist Blue" Smith-Corona Sterling (5AX-Series) which was made in America in 1966. This typewriter is one of my personal favorites, particularly because it combines SCM's trusty and smooth mechanism featured on all their 1950s-1980s manual portables with an attractive, streamlined "Super 5" body design. This particular typewriter is in excellent shape, and is fully functional right down to the bell. Keep in mind that this machine has an "elite" typeface, meaning that it types in 12 characters per inch rather than the standard 10 (the font is a slightly smaller size than normal). The original blue paint is in excellent shape and looks very clean, although there are a few scratches here and there- particular in the front left corner of the body (see pictures). As with other 5AX-Series Sterling typewriters, and most SCM machines, this typewriter is an excellent workhorse which can definitely be used heavily and reliably. This typewriter is easy to use and care for, and uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. The owner's manual can be viewed for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SCSterlingManual1963.pdf
If you’re in the market for a beauty which can be used heavily and reliably, then this is one of my highest recommendations.
