1960 Alpina SK24
Up for sale is my favorite portable typewriter of all time- the Alpina SK24. This beautiful SK24 was made in Western Germany in 1960. The only reason I decided to sell this typewriter was because I was not using the wonderful machine enough and I figured it would better belong to someone who could use it and appreciate it much more often than I could. The Alpina has an excellent reputation among all collectors and typewriter enthusiasts. Robert Messenger put it best, saying "This Alpina definitely has the best typing action I have ever experienced. It's sharp and clean and very snappy. I love it, and I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr Otto Rudolf for making it. His son's Burkhard's cars might be all the bee's knees right now, but this typewriter is as sharp as any 500 horsepower automobile, I can tell you..."
This particular Alpina is in great shape, although there are a few minor scratches in certain spots. Mechanically, this typewriter is as good as it gets. The typing mechanism, as discussed earlier, is superior for portables. This machine is also very easy to use and care for, and comes with the original instructions manual and two cleaning brushes. The universal ribbons sold on this site fit this machine perfectly. The case is also in excellent shape, although the piece of foam that would be inside the top of the lid disintegrated years ago. I can provide more pictures of the case upon request.
If you're in the market for the best of the best as far as a fine, reliable workhorse that's perfect to write something such as a novel, this is my highest recommendation.
