1968 Royal Safari
Up for sale is a nice Royal Safari which was manufactured in 1968. This typewriter is in good shape all around, although it has a few cosmetic flaws and the ribbon color selector is not functional (typewriter types on top 1/2 of ribbon only).
Cosmetically, there are a few areas of missing paint and/or scratches. The chrome on the carriage return lever is slightly pitted, so it does not shine like new. The Safari has a very unique space-age design, which made this machine appear very futuristic.
This typewriter is also fully functional, with everything working right down to the bell- the only exception being the ribbon color selector as mentioned. The font is the standard pica (10 characters per inch). The typing action is very similar to other Royal portables of the era, and so this typewriter makes for an excellent typer that can be used heavily and reliably. While there may be some slightly better options for machines to write something such as a novel on, the Safari is definitely capable of such tasks and would be a great workhorse.
The Safari is also very easy to use and care for, and uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. The owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/RoyalSafariManual1964.pdf
If you're in the market for a beautiful space-age machine in good shape that is ready to be used heavily, then this typewriter is an excellent buy.
