1966 Smith-Corona Sterling
Up for sale is a beautiful "Star mist Blue" Smith-Corona Sterling (5AX-Series) which was made in America in 1966. This typewriter is one of my personal favorites, particularly because it combines SCM's trusty and smooth mechanism featured on all their 1950s-1980s manual portables with an attractive, streamlined "Super 5" body design. This particular typewriter is in excellent shape, and is fully functional right down to the bell. This machine types in the standard pica (10 characters per inch) making the text easier to read compared to some other machines.
Cosmetically, this machine has some flaws, but nothing major. I strongly encourage you to review all pictures, but to sum it up, there are a few areas with spots/spotty stains and the spacebar seems to have a scratched pattern on it, although it does not feel scratched. The case is in excellent shape with pretty much nothing to complain about.
As with other 5AX-Series Sterling typewriters, and most SCM machines, this typewriter is an excellent workhorse which can definitely be used heavily and reliably. This typewriter is easy to use and care for, and uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. The owner's manual can be viewed for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/SCSterlingManual1963.pdf
If you’re in the market for a beauty which can be used heavily and reliably, then this is one of my highest recommendations.
