1963 Royal Safari
Up for sale is a nice Royal Safari which was manufactured in 1963. This typewriter is in near mint shape all around, however the white paneling on the front body has discolored and is now more yellow than white. The gray paint is in good shape overall, however there are a handful of small scratches and scuffs.
This typewriter is also fully functional, with everything working right down to the bell. The font is the standard pica (10 characters per inch). The typing action is very similar to other Royal portables of the era, and so this typewriter makes for an excellent typer that can be used heavily and reliably. While there may be some slightly better options for machines to write something such as a novel on, the Safari is definitely capable of such tasks and would be a great workhorse.
The Safari is also very easy to use and care for, and uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. The owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/RoyalSafariManual1964.pdf
If you're in the market for a beautiful space-age machine in excellent shape that is ready to be used heavily, then this typewriter is an excellent buy, especially if you don't mind this machine's cosmetic flaws which give it character.
