1962 Webster XL-747
Up for sale is a beautiful Webster XL-747 made by Brother in Nagoya, Japan in February of 1971. This typewriter is in excellent shape all around, and is fully functional right down to the bell. Cosmetically, this machine is almost perfect, with very few flaws. For example, there is a code scratched into the paint on the typebasket cover (see the picture after the type sample) and also inside the left-hand platen knob. Other than that, this typewriter is in near-mint shape and was cared for very well. This shade of blue paint is extremely attractive and contrasts well with the white keys.
Back to mechanics- despite it's small size, this typewriter is an excellent machine to use for dependable use, and is a rather smooth typer. Obviously, if you're looking for a machine to write a novel on or use extremely heavily, you may find better utility with a more expensive machine designed for such use, but this typewriter still can be used a lot and is an excellent machine to learn on.
This machine uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. The owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/webstermanual.pdf
The leather case is also in good shape, with the zipper completely intact and functional, which is rare for any typewriter this old with a zipper.
If you're looking for a cute and unique small portable which can still be used heavily and frequently despite its small size, then this is a great option.
