1967 Olympia SM9
Up for sale is an amazing Olympia SM9 which was manufactured in Western Germany in 1967. The SM8 and SM9 are easily mistaken for one-another (including myself- initially, which you can see on the type sample) however the SM8 has body-colored carriage ends as opposed to chrome, and does not have the ability to adjust touch control or set and clear margins from the keyboard.
This typewriter is in near mint shape all around, and is fully functional right down to the bell. The only thing to possibly complain about on this machine is that the platen has some white-out staining, and the case has a minor stain on the front despite being cleaned. Other than that, this typewriter is just about perfect. Despite being in impressive condition cosmetically, the biggest thing this machine has going for it is its functionality. This typewriter is one of my highest recommendations for heavy typing, as it's one of the most smooth and reliable machines to write on. The touch is light and responsive, but not mushy. And if you prefer a slightly heavier touch, the sensitivity is adjustable right from the side of the keyboard.
It's also a very easy machine to use and care for, and uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site. The owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/OlympiaSM9.pdf
If you're in the market for one of the best typewriters for heavy and consistent use, then this is one of the best machines I can recommend- especially considering this machine was cared for so well.
