1956 Olympia SM3
Up for sale is an excellent Olympia SM3 which was manufactured in Western Germany in 1956. This typewriter is in excellent shape overall, and is fully functional right down to the bell. Cosmetically, this typewriter has a few flaws- mainly some minor stains or areas of discoloration in the crinkle paint despite being cleaned. (see all pictures) but does not have any rust or any other severe cosmetic problems. The case is in decent shape overall, and does its job without any complaints.
Mechanically, this typewriter shines above the rest. This machine is extremely smooth and reliable, as all Olympia machines are known to be. German engineering and craftsmanship really shines with Olympias, and this machine is no exception to that standard.
Keep in mind that this machine has a slightly smaller font than what is normal (11 pitch instead of 10 pitch) meaning that it types 11 characters per inch. Despite this, the font is still very crisp and readable unless you are visually impaired- in that case you may prefer a standard pica 10 pitch machine.
This SM3/SM4 series is one my favorites to write on, and I would highly recommend it for heavy and frequent typing. Universal ribbons fit this machine perfectly, and the owner's manual can be downloaded for free here: https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/OlympiaSM3.pdf
