1970s Olympia B12
Up for sale is a nice Olympia B12 which was made in Japan by Nakajima sometime in the 1970s. This typewriter has a rather modern look, but I find it to be attractive. The body and case are mostly plastic, so it's a bit lighter than previous Olympia typewriters. Still, the frame and important parts are metal. What matters most, is that this typewriter still is a dependable workhorse that types very nicely. Japanese-made products from the '60s and '70s didn't always have the best reputation (similar to Chinese products today) however the B12 seems to be an exception, as it's an excellent machine to write with just as the older machines in the Olympia family tree.
This B12 is perfectly functional right down to the bell, and is also in great shape cosmetically. It uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site, and includes the original dust cover with Olympia International branding. This typewriter writes in the standard pica-sized typeface.
If you're looking for a slightly cheaper and more modern workhorse that's ready to be used heavily and reliably, then this is one of the best choices.
