1940 Underwood M
Up for sale is an Underwood Model M which was made in America in 1940. This typewriter is in decent condition overall, but has a number of cosmetic flaws. Mechanically, this typewriter is perfectly functional, and is a very smooth and speedy typewriter to write with. This machine writes in a slightly than standard "elite" typeface, at 12 characters per inch instead of 10. Still, the typeface is very much legible and crisp. Back to cosmetics- the crinkle paint is discolored in several areas, and could probably be cleaned more thoroughly if you wish. At the same time, some of the paint has flaked off. There's no rust on this machine, but some of the metal is lightly pitted, which is typical for this machine's age.
The rubber feet on this machine have been replaced, since one of the original rubber feet were destroyed, and the other 3 were worn from holding this machine's weight for so long.
Universal ribbons fit this typewriter perfectly, and are available on this site.
I could not find a copy of the owner's manual for this machine, however similar models' manuals can be located for free download and are still of use.
If you're looking for a very smooth and reliable workhorse that can be used for heavy typing, and are willing to look past this typewriter's cosmetic flaws, then this is an excellent budget machine!
