1960s Royal Mercury
Up for sale is a nice little Royal Mercury which was made in Japan sometime in the late ‘60s or early ‘70s. This machine is in great shape all around, and is fully functional right down to the bell. Cosmetically, there are a few slight issues, including some wear to the grey trim above the keyboard on the right side (see pcitures) and some sticker residue leftover on the rear. Also included is a type-guide which keeps the typebars from hitting the platen while the machine is in transit.
The Mercury is a great low-budget machine all around, and it's easy to use and take care of. The user manual for this machine can be downloaded here: http://machinesoflovinggrace.com/manuals/RoyalSilver-Seikomanual.pdf
This typewriter also uses universal ribbons which are sold on this site.
The Mercury wouldn't be my first choice for heavier writing such as novel-writing or anything involving using this machine for a long period at a time. The typewriter itself is very reliable and dependable, however the touch isn't the most soothing compared to other more high end machines. If you want to write a page or two at a time, this typewriter is a great option and will tackle the job. Additionally, its light weight and slim size make it a great traveler.
