1934 Underwood Noiseless 77
Up for sale is an Underwood Noiseless 77 which was manufactured in 1934. This typewriter would not have been afforded by many, and so it is not a very common model. If you're familiar with the Remington Noiseless portables of the same period, you may find its appearance strikingly similar, and that's because it is. Remington produced these under license for Underwood, and so they're almost identical in all aspects aside from the labeling.
This typewriter is in good condition overall, but has some cosmetic wear. The paint is in relatively shiny shape, but does have some flaws. The labels also have some notable evidence of wear. The carrying case is also pretty worn, and the leather handle has mostly fallen apart, but there is a metal piece in the center so the handle itself will not fail. The platen and feed rollers are in good shape, and although they have not been re-covered recently, should still have a lot of life left in them. The rubber feet are definitely very old and could be replaced, but they are still in tact and somewhat useful.
This typewriter is fully functional down to the bell, and types smoothly in-line with all the other Noiseless machines alike it. If you've never heard a 'noiseless' machine type before, it's worth watching the following video before purchasing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5j-j1j5i7w
This typewriter uses universal ribbons once the center/core of the new spools is removed, so maintaining this typewriter should be pretty easy. The owner's manual for this machine can be downloaded for free here: https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/underwood_noiseless_77_user_guide1.pdf
If you're looking for an absolutely beautiful Underwood Noiseless 77 that has some character and evidence of age, but that can still be used heavily and reliably, then this is the one for you.
