1935 Corona Sterling Flat-Top (1A)
Up for sale is a Corona Sterling "Flat-top" (1A-Series) which was manufactured in 1935. The 1A series of the Sterling (which was the flat top) was only made from '34 to '38, so this machine was produced rather early on. This typewriter is in remarkable condition both cosmetically and mechanically, and is fully functional right down to the bell. The jet-black glossy paint is the highlight of this machine, complemented by the gold labels which are all largely in tact and in good shape. This machine has sales/service sticker from a shop in Juneau, Alaska which provides some interesting insight to this machine's history that would otherwise be unknown. The paint is essentially in mint condition, with little to no scratches or missing paint. If you're like me, you'll find yourself dusting this machine frequently, since the paint shines like a mirror. The chrome is also in impressive shape and shines beautifully. The carrying case is also in great shape, and the leather-covered handle is in tact and still reliable.
Mechanically, this typewriter is also a great machine to write on, and is very smooth. There are better more modern options to write something like a novel on, but I would still say that I could recommend this machine for heavy writing if you are set on only buying a pre-war machine. If you are limited to pre-war machines only, then this is probably one of my highest recommendations for a workhorse to write something like a novel with. Universal ribbons (sold on this site) fit this typewriter perfectly. The rubber on this machine is in pretty decent shape as well, and even the rubber feet are not rock hard and still have a lot of life left in them. Despite being from 1935, this typewriter is ready to type for many years to come.

If you're looking for a classic '30s machine in near mint shape that's still ready to be used as a moderate workhorse, then this is a beautiful choice.
