1946 Smith-Corona Sterling (4A)
Up for sale is a repainted Smith-Corona Sterling (4A-Series) which was made just after WWII in 1946. This typewriter was re-painted at some point many decades ago, and so unfortunately all the labels are not visible, but this machine would have been marked as a Sterling according to the serial number. The paint would have also originally been black, which is evident by some spots where the original paint is visible through areas of missing paint from the re-paint layer. This typewriter is fully functional in all aspects, and has a slightly smaller than standard elite typeface which is still rather crisp and clear. Unfortunately the carrying case is missing, but it is not too hard to locate a replacement case online if desired. This typewriter uses universal ribbons, and is a very easy machine to use and care for.
If you are on a budget and don't mind this machine's lackluster appearance from the re-paint, then this is a great deal on an excellent classic machine that is still ready to be used heavily and reliably. This model is an iconic machine from the '40s and is a really smooth machine to write with.
