1930 Underwood Portable Model C
Up for sale is a truly unique Underwood Portable Model C with gold paneling which was made in the USA in 1930. This typewriter has an extremely rare and unique large typeface, which I measured to be 6-pitch (6 characters per inch). Finding an Underwood Portable like this one with the rare gold decorative panels on the front and sides of this machine is not easy, but I have never seen any Underwood portable equipped with this typeface. I have only seen a similar typeface on a single Smith-Corona Galaxie model from the 1960s or 1970s.
This typewriter is fully functional in all aspects, and can only use a single color ribbon due to the size of the typeface. Universal ribbons do fit this typewriter perfectly and are sold on this site (just request an all-black ribbon when the time comes). It can be used heavily and frequently, and is likely one of the only options for any amount of use if you are looking for this size and type of font.
Cosmetically, this machine is in great shape. The black paint doesn't shine quite like new, however it is still very much in good condition and does have shine to it. The gold paneling is in impressive shape as can be seen in the photos. The rubber feet on this typewriter were missing, and so they have been replaced with brand new feet that should last decades.
The only thing that this machine is missing is the carrying case, although with some luck they can be found on eBay and would add quite a bit more value to this already valuable and collectible machine.
