1923 Corona Improved Model 3
Up for sale is a nice Corona Improved Model 3 folding typewriter. This typewriter is very similar to the standard folding Model 3, however it added a shift and figure key on the right-hand side of the keyboard and also has a wider frame to accommodate those keys. It also has a carriage return lever as opposed to a small nub, although the lever on this machine is still rather small and not the most effective ergonomically. This typewriter is fully functional down to the bell, however this is not a machine that I would recommend for heavy or frequent use. The typewriter seems a bit finnicky, and can hang up a bit more than usual. The typewriter can still definitely be used, however it is just a bit slow to use and so it would be best to limit it to smaller writing tasks such as letters, postcards, notes, etc. which is really what this typewriter was designed to handle back in the day anyways. Cosmetically, this typewriter is in impressive condition but does show some age in some aspects. The paint shines really nicely, and the labels are largely in-tact. A lot of the nickel plating does have some patina, but there is no rust anywhere. The carrying case has wear typical with machines of this age, and is partially reinforced with tape. This typewriter does not use universal ribbons, and so the original spools must be re-thread as I have done when the time comes to replace the fresh ribbon that is currently installed.
