1924 Underwood No. 5
Up for sale is one of the most classic desktop typewriters ever made- the Underwood No. 5. This machine was made in the USA in 1924. The Underwood No. 5 is a relatively common typewriter, as it was one of the most successful 'visible' typewriters to hit the market and was produced for around 30 years (from 1900-1933). This typewriter is in fully functional shape, and is an excellent machine all around. Cosmetically, the paint on this machine is nearly as good as it gets for being all original. The labels and pinstriping are all in great shape as well. All-in-all, even for being a relatively common machine, it is not easy to find a No. 5 in nearly as good of shape as this one. The rubber parts are all in excellent and functional condition, including the platen and feed rollers, as well as the rubber feet. This typewriter is absolutely a perfect machine to write something like a novel on, and is an extremely smooth and reliable workhorse even despite being nearly 100 years old. Universal ribbons fit this typewriter perfectly, and can be purchased on this website. The owner's manual for this machine can be found for free here: https://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/Underwood3-4-5-1929.pdf
If you're in the market for one of the most classic desktop typewriters ever made in America and one that can still be used heavily and reliably, then this is one of my best recommendations.
Note: This typewriter, along with other desktops are expensive to ship because of their extremely heavy weight (close to 40-50 pounds in most cases) and the large boxes that they require. If you decide to purchase a desktop typewriter, you can be assured that the expensive shipping costs will ensure that your typewriter arrives safely and in one piece.
That being said, if you are local to Southeastern PA, you are welcome to pick this typewriter up and avoid the cost of shipping completely.
